North American Indoor Football League

Athletic Advantage, Inc. - a group led by former Entrepreneur of the Year and founder of Express Technologies (now Hosting.com) Jason Heffran, announced plans today for a semi-professional indoor football league to begin in January 2013.

The North American Indoor Football League (NAIFL) will oversee the operations of several "divisions" that will compete in regional conferences ultimately ending in the crowning of a National Champion. Currently, one division is scheduled to begin in 2012 that will serve Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. This "league model" will be replicated throughout the U.S. in a regional manner. The NAIFL is currently in discussions with several facilities in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Virginia and eastern Pennsylvania.

Similar to the professional "Arena Football League (AFL)" that is played on a 50-yard field in arenas such as the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA (Pittsburgh Power), the NAIFL will be played by the same rules and in facilities that have been designed for multi-sports usage.

The PISA "Arena" measures 210' x 150' and has a "FieldTurf" surface.
The Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena (PISA) is the first location being used by the NAIFL for the games being played by the teams in the Western Pennsylvania Indoor Football League (WPIFL). You can visit their website at http://www.pisausa.com. The image above shows an endzone view of the playing surface.

Currently, the pioneering league for the NAIFL is the Western Pennsylvania Indoor Football League (WPIFL). The WPIFL is based in Pittsburgh, PA and plays an 8-team/2-division format with single elimination divisional playoffs and a championship game.

The regular season is a 10-game schedule (two games versus divisional opponents, one game versus non-divisional opponents) and begins from January 14, 2012 and ends on March 17, 2012. Divisional playoffs are scheduled for March 24, 2012 and the WPIFL Championship Game is to be played at 8:00pm on March 31, 2012 with the winning team receiving championship rings similar in style to that of the Super Bowl.
